Microcurrent treatments use pulsating electrical currents of extremely low voltage to naturally contour the face, lift sagging muscles and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Microcurrent operates at the cellular level to rejuvenate and nourish your skin, nerves, muscles, blood and lymph system. Even more, the current stimulates endorphins, so that when you leave a session, you both look and feel your best.
The benefits of microcurrent include improved health and appearance of the skin, and firmer, more toned facial muscles. Plus, the treatments are so relaxing, that many people fall asleep during their sessions. While the best and most lasting results occur over time, you can often see a difference in just the first session.
Here’s why. As we age, our body gradually loses its natural electrical energy—like a battery losing its charge. The collagen and elastin in our skin cells break down. Our facial muscles become increasingly contracted from years of gravity and facial expression. The combined result is sagging and increased lines, wrinkles and folds. Microcurrent works at the cellular level to counter these effects. It literally recharges your skin back to a more youthful state.
Microcurrent emits tiny electrical impulses that mimic the body’s own electrical signals, increasing the amount of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) by as much as 500%. ATP is a nucleotide that is able to store and transport chemical energy within cells. Increased levels of ATP speed cellular metabolism, stimulate protein synthesis, promote detoxification and reconstitute collagen and elastin. For over 60 years, microcurrent’s well-documented ability to speed the healing and injuries and wounds has been attributed to this increase in ATP.
This treatment is often referred to as a "natural" face lift. This safe and painless facial erases fine lines and wrinkles while firming your skin and defining your features. A Microcurrent facial consists of your esthetician moving small electrical probes around your face, which pass painless electrical current into the skin on your face and neck to help tone, lift, firm, and reeducate tired muscles.

This treatment starts out like a regular facial. The entire process included cleansing, exfoliation, serums, and masking. A thin film of a conductive gel is applied with the microcurrent machine, which had two wands that the electrical current run through. No discomfort or pain will be felt, just the cool metal wands lifting sections of the face and staying put for a few seconds and repeating before moving to the next section. It's sending a signal for the muscle that this is where it belongs, training the facial tissue by going over different parts of your face multiple times.
Costs vary depending on where a person lives and from whom they seek treatment. Most clinics charge between $200–600 per session.
There is limited research on the potential side effects of microcurrent facials. Some of the effects people report include:
Most people need 4-6 treatments to see a significant difference.
Microcurrents are not strong enough to cause injury, so when a person uses these devices correctly, they should not hurt or cause skin damage. However, some people should not have microcurrent facials. This includes people with:
